The earliest brewery the sources name in Monaco is the Brasserie de Monaco, opened in 1905 in the Fontvieille district and closed in 1972; no source gives its owners or the reason for the closure. A poster of 1936 by the French artist Pierre Bellenger advertises Bière de Monaco from the Brasserie Albert Bräu in Fontvieille, but no source says whether that was the same firm under another name. Nothing found describes beer in the Principality before 1905 or the imports that supplied it.
The brewery came back in 2008. The businessman Gildo Pallanca-Pastor poured the first blonde on 1 August 2008 at Port Hercule, on the Route de la Piscine, in a brewpub with a 1,000-litre brewhouse built with Kaspar Schulz, five fermentation tanks and four serving tanks. The brewers say they work from the recipes of the old brewery, with organic malts and without filtering or pasteurising: a Pils-type Blonde with German and Alsatian hops, a Blanche in the witbier style with barley and wheat malt, Czech hops and coriander, an amber Ambrée, and a seasonal beer, a Christmas beer each December and a 5.2% porter from 5 February to 17 March 2024. It brews about 100,000 litres a year, with a peak of 16,000 litres in July; the Grand Prix in May and the Yacht Show in September are its busiest events. In 2016 the company added a premium bottled range in a red bottle. The Blonde won the Fourquet d'Or at the national beer competition at Saint-Nicolas-de-Port on 2-3 May 2014 and silver at the Concours International de Lyon in March 2023; its Blanche took gold there on 22-23 March 2024, the seventh award in the brewery's history.
A second brand, Monte Carlo Beer (MCB), was launched in 2019 by the friends William Scheffer and Anthony Orengo; its company is M.C Fine Beer SARL, at 1 Rue du Gabian in Fontvieille. It has no brewery in the Principality yet: the beer was first brewed in Saint-Raphaël in France and since March 2023 at a certified organic brewery in Mouans-Sartoux, and the founders say they await a brewery of their own in Monaco. The range is a blonde, an amber ale and an IPA; in October 2023 came a 6% IPA and a 0.5% alcohol-free blonde. In 2025 MCB signed with Molson Coors for a 4.8% lager brewed in the United Kingdom, on draught from 28 July 2025 and in bottles from September. Earlier, in December 2004, the trade press noted that a Monaco company, Propaganda, had added guarana to its latest beer; Untappd lists it as Propaganda Red Guarana Beer, 6%, brewed by Pivovar Nymburk in the Czech Republic and no longer made.
Monaco also gives its name to a drink of lager with lemonade and a dash of grenadine; Heineken launched a bottled version, Monaco de Panach', in 1995. It is often said that the drink was invented by a certain George Booth after the snakebite, a mix of beer and cider, but no source confirms it. In 2026 BeerAdvocate lists two breweries in the Principality, the brewpub and MCB, and the latest news found from the brewpub is its 2024 gold medal.
