How it works
Founded on 9 August 1933 at Yeongdeungpo as Chosun Brewery, a venture of Japan's Dai Nippon Brewery, brewing Crown Beer. Privatised in 1952, it supplied the UN forces in Korea from 1954 and made the first Korean beer export in March 1962. Hite, launched in 1993, took the national lead in 1996, and the company was renamed Hite Brewery in 1998. The Gangwon plant at Hongcheon opened in August 1997 and the Yeongdeungpo plant was closed (the site is now an apartment estate). On 1 September 2011 it merged with Jinro as HiteJinro. unverified info
