How it works
Traces its roots to 1872, when the Briton Henry Price Miles founded H.P. Miles & Cia to make beer and soft drinks in Madeira; a second firm, Araújo, Tavares e Passos (1922), merged with it into Empresa de Cervejas da Madeira in the 1930s. Coral lager, its main brand, dates from 1967 (1969 by another source); Zarco is its second beer and Brisa its soft-drink brand. In 1999 the Pestana Group, with the Miles family, bought the shares of Central de Cervejas and took 68%. It marked its 150th anniversary in 2022; the brewery is at Palmeira, Câmara de Lobos. unverified info
