How it works
John Crabbie & Co. of Edinburgh and Leith was a wine, spirits and whisky merchant whose Green Ginger Wine is recorded from 1839; the family traces its name to 1801. Distillers Company Limited bought it in 1963, and in the 1980s it passed to Macdonald & Muir. Halewood International bought the brand in 2007 and makes Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer in Liverpool; the old Leith company is dormant. Not a brewery. unverified info
