How it works
Castel Malawi Limited is the former Carlsberg Malawi and owns the country's only industrial brewery, at Makata Industrial Area in Blantyre (opened on 14 December 1968, capacity 380,000 hl). Groupe Castel, through its holding BIH, bought the 59.48% held by Carlsberg Breweries A/S after the sale announced on 10 August 2016, and the company took the name Castel Malawi in 2017; Press Corporation said in 2021 that it would sell its remaining 20%. The soft-drinks business went to Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in 2022. Brands: Carlsberg Green and Special Brew, Kuche Kuche, Castel Beer (2019), Doppel Munich (2021) and Sapitwa (2025). unverified info
