How it works
The brewery on Hope Square in Weymouth, where brewing may go back to the 13th century; the present business was founded in 1742 by the Fowler and Flew families and was bought by William Devenish in 1824. It was registered as J. A. Devenish & Co. in 1889, took over the Cornish Brewery at Redruth in 1934 and the neighbouring Groves & Sons in 1960. Brewing at Weymouth stopped in November 1985 and the building became the Brewers Quay shopping and heritage complex, opened in June 1990; the company brewed at Redruth until 1991 and was sold to Greenalls in 1993. unverified info
