## About

Founded in Christiania (Oslo) in 1859 by the sea captain Mads Ellef Langaard from Lillesand, at Pilestredet 52 on part of the old Frydenlund estate. Its mark, a hexagonal star with his initials ML, became Norway's first protected trademark in 1884, and Norway's first brewery laboratory was built there in 1886. It joined Schous Bryggeri as a subsidiary of De Sammensluttede Bryggerier in 1962, the two merged as Frydenlund Schous in 1977, and Nora Industrier bought them in 1978. Schous stopped brewing in 1981, and in 1983 the remaining two breweries were joined as Frydenlund Ringnes Bryggerier (Ringnes AS from 1985 or 1988, by source). Production at Pilestredet ended in 1995; Frydenlund beer is still sold but brewed at Ringnes. Part of the buildings now belong to OsloMet.
