How it works
Started in 1997 by Tabitha and Joseph Karanja on their family farm at Naivasha, first as a maker of fortified wines and spirits. It began brewing in 2008 and launched Summit Lager in October 2008, the first large Kenyan brewery owned by neither of the multinationals. A plant with a capacity of 600,000 bottles a day opened in March 2015. Summit Lager, Summit Malt and, since 2020, the sorghum-based KB Lager; wines and spirits as well. Closed in 2021 and 2022; in January 2025 the founders' son Edward Muigai was running operations. unverified info
