How it works
Founded in 2007 by James Watt and Martin Dickie in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, and later moved its main brewery to Ellon; it grew with crowdfunding and its own bars into the seventh-largest beer brand in Britain. James Watt stepped down as chief executive in May 2024. BrewDog closed ten UK bars in July 2025 and its Ellon distillery in January 2026, and on 2 March 2026 its UK and Ireland operations were sold for £33 million to the American company Tilray in a pre-pack administration. Punk IPA is the main brand. unverified info
