How it works
Founded in 1874 by George Bateman, a farmer who sold his farm at Friskney to rent a brewery by the railway in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire; he bought the lease a year later and in 1880 moved to Salem House, where the brewery still is. His son Harry bought the business in 1919, and it is still family-owned, with about 69 pubs. XB and XXXB are its best-known cask ales. unverified info
