## About

Gageleer is a beer flavoured with bog myrtle (gagel), the main herb of the medieval gruit ales, and it belongs to the cooperative Gageleer cvba-so, which uses the proceeds for nature reserves in the Kempen. After a first garage beer at Beerse, 1,000 litres were brewed and bottled on 23 November 1996 at the newly started Proef brewery in Lochristi for the Turnhout nature society De Wielewaal. Five members founded a cooperative in 1997, the beer has been certified organic since 29 August 2003, and the firm became a cooperative with a social purpose in 2012. It is still brewed at the Proefbrouwerij to the cooperative's recipe (row #1747, whose point it shares); the range is Gageleer Original, Superior Dark, No Alcohol and Sour White No Hops.
