How it works
Browar Zamkowy in Racibórz has the oldest brewing tradition in Upper Silesia: a brewery by the castle wall existed before 1532 and is described in a land register of 1567. The von Ratibor family took it over in 1840 and, after the castle fire of 1858, built a steam brewery in place of the old one, modernised in 1896-97 and restarted in 1898 under the brewer Kaufmann; its Raciborskie pilsner followed in 1899. The brewery came through both world wars, with a short break in the 1990s after the 1997 flood, and still brews at ul. Zamkowa 2. unverified info
