How it works
The Cape Hill brewery in Smethwick, west of Birmingham, of Mitchells & Butlers, formed in 1898 by the merger of Butler's Crown Brewery of Broad Street, Birmingham, and Henry Mitchell & Co. of Cape Hill. In 1961 it merged with Bass, Ratcliff & Gretton to form Bass, Mitchells & Butlers. After the Bass breweries passed to Interbrew, Cape Hill was sold to Coors, which closed it in 2002 and moved production to Burton upon Trent. Its best-known beer was Brew XI. The Mitchells & Butlers name now belongs to a pub and restaurant company formed in 2003. unverified info
