## About

Brouwerij Artois of Leuven grew from the Den Hoorn brewery, which a city excise record shows existed in 1366, although the Stella Artois website dates the first clear reference to 1466. Sébastien Artois began as a brewmaster there in 1708 and bought the brewery in 1717. Stella Artois was first brewed in October 1925 and launched as a Christmas beer in 1926; in 1988 Artois was a founding member of the merger that created Interbrew, which became InBev in 2004 and AB InBev in 2008, and in 1993 production moved to a new automated brewery in Leuven.
