United Kingdom The East Cornwall Steam Brewery on Bay Tree Hill in Liskeard, founded about 1773 and acquired by Edmund Venning by 1830. A drastic modernisation and expansion in 1858 came as the local mining boom collapsed, and the brewery owned eleven pubs. The brewhouse was destroyed by fire in 1942 and brewing ceased; the firm carried on as bottlers and wine and spirit merchants until Watney, Combe, Reid & Co. bought it in January 1955, and it ceased to trade in March 1963. unverified info
