Registered in October 1889 to merge five breweries, among them Samuel Vosper's Regent Brewery and Amanda Butcher's Anchor Brewery in Stonehouse, Plymouth, with the Regent Brewery as its main site. Courage bought it in December 1970 for £6.5 million, and it traded for a while as Courage South West; the Regent Brewery closed in March 1984. unverified info
