How it works
The Ponghak Foodstuffs Factory stands in a small valley at Ponghak, just outside Pyongsong in South Pyongan Province; the site was chosen for a natural spring, and the factory also bottles spring water, soft drinks and soju. Construction began in 1978 and beer has been made for the public since 1982, with breaks for renovation and expansion. Its pale lager comes as Ponghak 11 and Ponghak 12, the numbers being degrees Plato. In January 2026 Daily NK reported Ponghak beer in import shops in Dandong, China. unverified info
