## About

Thomas Dixon Ridley, a farmer and maltster, opened the Hartford End brewery near Chelmsford, Essex, in 1842. Greene King bought Ridley's for £45.6 million in July 2005 (2006 by the Brewery History Society), closed the brewery and moved the brewing of Ridley's brands to Bury St Edmunds; Old Bob is still brewed there. Nelion Ridley restarted small-scale brewing in 2011 as Bishop Nick, because Greene King holds the Ridley name.
