How it works
Steinlager was launched in 1958 by New Zealand Breweries as Steinecker, named after the maker of the brewing equipment, after the import restrictions of the 1958 budget. Renamed Steinlager in 1962 to tell it from Heineken. Exported to the United States and Japan in the 1970s, with a green bottle for export from 1973; won the Les Amis du Vin award four years in a row until 1980. Now brewed by Lion at East Tamaki, Auckland. unverified info
