United Kingdom Thomas and Hannah Usher bought a small brewery in Back Street, Trowbridge, in 1824 and called it Usher's Wiltshire Brewery; Usher's Wiltshire Brewery Ltd was formed in 1889 and took over some fifteen breweries. Watney Mann bought it in 1960, Grand Metropolitan owned it from 1972, and a management buy-out made Ushers Brewers Ltd. Alchemy Partners took it private in 1998 and closed the brewery in 2000; Punch Taverns bought the pub company in 2004. unverified info
