The only brewery of the Gambia, owned by the Castel group. Incorporated in 1973, built from 1975 near Westfield Junction in Kanifing; brewing from 1977. Its beer JulBrew won Monde Selection gold in 1979, 1987, 1990 and 1999; also Castel Beer, Guinness and soft drinks. Stopped in April 2020 after the excise on beer was raised from 10 to 75 percent. unverified info
