How it works
Founded in 1869 by George Lorimer and Robert Clark on Slateford Road, Edinburgh, as Lorimer and Clark's Caledonian Brewery. Vaux of Sunderland bought it in 1939 and wanted to stop brewing there in 1986; a management buy-out led by Russell Sharp saved it in 1987. Scottish & Newcastle bought it in 2004, and Heineken took it over in 2008. Heineken announced the closure in May 2022 and moved Deuchars IPA, Coast to Coast and Maltsmiths to Belhaven in Dunbar; the site was sold for housing. unverified info
