How it works
Charles and Sarah Eldridge bought the Green Dragon Brewery in Durngate Street, Dorchester, in 1837; the Pope family entered the business and Eldridge, Pope & Co. Ltd was incorporated in 1897. A new brewery by the railway line was built in 1880 and opened in 1881. It brewed Royal Oak and Thomas Hardy's Ale. The brewery closed in July 2003 after the sale to a property company, and the site is now the Brewery Square development; Marston's bought the pubs in 2007. unverified info
