How it works
William McEwan opened the Fountain Brewery in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, in 1856. It merged with William Younger's in 1931 as Scottish Brewers and, with Newcastle Breweries, became Scottish & Newcastle in 1960. The McEwan's brand passed to Heineken in 2008, to Wells & Young's in 2011 and to Marston's in 2017, and is now owned by Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company; cans and bottles are brewed in Bedford. unverified info
