How it works
Whitbread was founded as a London brewery in 1742 by Samuel Whitbread with Godfrey and Thomas Shewell, and moved to Chiswell Street in 1750, where it brewed porter; brewing at Chiswell Street ended in 1976. By the 1780s it was the largest brewery in the world. In 2001 Whitbread sold all its breweries and brewing interests, the Whitbread Beer Company, to Interbrew (now AB InBev). Whitbread-branded beers are still sold under licence. unverified info
