How it works
Joshua Tetley leased a brewery in Hunslet, Leeds, in 1822 and the Leeds Brewery on Hunslet Road became the largest in the city after it took over the Melbourne Brewery in 1960. It merged with Walker of Warrington as Tetley Walker in 1960, joined Ind Coope and Ansells in Allied Breweries in 1961, and was renamed Carlsberg-Tetley in January 1993 after an amalgamation with Carlsberg's brewery; Carlsberg took it over in 1998. Carlsberg closed the Leeds brewery in June 2011 (17 June by Grace's Guide); it was demolished in 2012 and Tetley's is brewed elsewhere. The former headquarters is now The Tetley art centre. unverified info
