Country: gb United Kingdom

The Harvey family dates its brewery to 1790; John Harvey was brewing part-time in Bear Yard, Lewes, by about 1820 and with his sons bought the present Bridge Wharf site beside the River Ouse in 1838 for £3,100. The Grade II* listed tower brewery was largely rebuilt about 1880 to the designs of William Bradford. A second brewing line doubled capacity to 50,000 barrels a year in 1984. Harvey's owns 45 pubs and brews Sussex Best Bitter. unverified info
