How it works
Ethiopia's first brewery, founded in Addis Ababa in 1922 by Mussie Dawit Hale. Run by the Italians during the occupation of 1936–1941, then owned by Haile Selassie and other shareholders; Hale won his case and sold the brewery to the government on 1 August 1952. Nationalised by the Derg in 1974 and renamed Pilsner, later Addis Brewery. Privatised in 1998 as the first Ethiopian brewery: sold to BGI Ethiopia of the French Castel group, the St. George name restored. unverified info
