How it works
The company name of Nøgne Ø (Naked Isle, from Ibsen's poem Terje Vigen), founded in January 2002 by Gunnar Wiig and Kjetil Jikiun, who began in a garage at Bergemoen and have been in Grimstad since 2005. Hansa Borg bought a majority share (54.4 %) on 25 November 2013, and Jikiun left in July 2015. A new brewhouse next to the old one came into use in June 2017; sake brewing, a first in Europe, stopped in March 2018.
