How it works
Traces its origin to the Cervecería Popular, opened in 1866 in Palermo, Montevideo, by the German Conrado Niding; the Montevideana and Nacional breweries followed, and in 1932-33 Cervecerías del Uruguay and the Cervecería Oriental (founded 1923) merged into Fábricas Nacionales de Cerveza, based in Arroyo Seco. Owned by the Bemberg group (Quilmes) from the 1950s and by Brazil's AmBev, now AB InBev, since the early 2000s, it brews Pilsen, Patricia, Norteña and Zillertal and is the only industrial brewer in Uruguay. Its Minas plant, where Patricia was bottled, was closed in 2026 and production is concentrated in Montevideo. unverified info
