How it works
The Żywiec brewery in Żywiec, in the Beskids, was started in 1856 by Archduke Albrecht Friedrich of Habsburg, and the Habsburgs owned it until the state took it over after the Second World War. It became Zakłady Piwowarskie w Żywcu S.A. in 1990 and was privatised in 1992, and Heineken became its main shareholder in the 1990s (Forsal gives 1994). In December 1998 it merged with the Brewpole breweries to form Grupa Żywiec. The plant can brew about 5 million hectolitres a year, the largest in the group, and Żywiec Jasne Pełne is its main beer. unverified info
