Brouwerij De Smedt in Opwijk brewed only top-fermented beers and was founded around 1790; its Op-Ale won four gold medals at the Brussels World's Fair of 1935. Heineken took it over in steps between 2000 and 2003 and renamed it Affligem Brouwerij, and from 1 May 2010 it was part of Alken-Maes. Heineken closed the Opwijk brewery in August 2022 and moved the brewing to Alken and France. unverified info
