Founded on 13 April 1899 as Sandefjord Bryggeri og Mineralvandfabrik A/S at Grønli in Sandefjord. Guttorm Gran, brewmaster since 1944, bought all the shares in 1949; the firm took the name Grans Bryggeri in 1965-66, left the brewers' association, cut its prices and sold direct from its own Grans Lavpris outlets (39 at their peak). An exclusive deal with Rema 1000 in 1996 gave it national distribution by August 1997. A new brewery building next to the 1899 one was finished in September 2020.
